520 _a"Cloze Connections has been developed primarily to improve reading comprehension. The pupil's task is to identify the exact words that have been deleted. In identifying the correct deletions the pupils must relate the whole to the part and the part to the whole. The pupils depend upon their insight into the interrelationship of ideas. They must blend semantic and syntactic clues in order to choose the most appropriate responses. The deletion of words from a passage requires the pupils to pay more attention to the message of the passage as conveyed by the remaining cue words.
